In 2014, LeBron James took the biggest risk of his career. The results were extraordinary.

Taking risks in the gym can also lead to remarkable success. Achieving a great physique comes down to two key principles.

1) You Have To Be Willing To Take Risks

If you never take a risk, then you will never achieve greatness.

No successful lifter can build a great physique without taking a risk. Let’s talk about a real-life example of risk-taking.

LeBron James had a comfortable situation while he was playing for the Miami Heat. He was playing alongside future Hall of Famers Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Not only were they his teammates, but they were his friends as well.

They were also a fixture in the NBA Finals from 2011 to 2014. LeBron was going to be great no matter where he played in the NBA, but to achieve rare-air status, he had to take a major risk. That risk was going back home to the Cleveland Cavaliers after four seasons in Miami.

Cleveland had completely fallen apart after James left for greener pastures in Miami in 2011. James knew upon his return that the journey to win a championship in Cleveland would not be easy. But, if he won the NBA title in Cleveland, he’d achieve basketball immortality.

In his first season back, the Cavs did not have enough horses to run with the Golden State Warriors. They lost in 6 games during the 2015 NBA Finals despite their valiant effort. But in his second year back, James and the Cavs made history. They became the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals. The Cavs won the series in a dramatic Game 7.

By taking a risk and going back to Cleveland, James unleashed his inner greatness. Though he has three other NBA titles, they pale in comparison to the way that he obtained this one.

Many lifters do not build great physiques because they don’t ever take any risks. This week, my challenge to you is to take a risk in the gym.

Perform an extra set or two. Lift heavier weights. Do more reps. Take shorter rest periods. Seek out situations in the gym where you put yourself up against a formidable challenge. You have to take risks to build a great physique.

Sometimes you will not be successful in taking a risk. That’s fine because you have to fail to succeed.

2) You Have To Be 100 Percent Committed To Your Craft

There are many people who frequently go to the gym. But their bodies appear as if they never spent much time in the gym at all.

They show up, year after year. But the changes they hoped for have not come. When your commitment to change isn’t real, it does not matter how many times you show up. Your lack of commitment will not allow your body to reap the benefits of training.

If you want to build a great physique, you are going to have to make a true commitment to doing so. This means training on days when you do not want to train. This means choosing the proper meals even when you want pure junk food.

That also means performing exercises that are difficult. True commitment is not easy, but it is necessary for you to be great.

Conclusion

When you become a student of your craft or goal, you put yourself on the narrow path to success.

I’ll holla at you next time.
