thanksgiving

Thanksgiving can be a total disaster for many people in terms of gaining weight. But it does not have to be that way.

The holidays are times where family and friends come together to have good conversation and excellent food. But you also don’t want to turn into a complete glutton just because it’s a holiday. I have some options for you to mitigate the damage that can be done with holiday eating.

1) Do Not Overeat

The best option to make sure you do not gain weight is to not overeat. Most people don’t want to hear this, but eating less is definitely the most effective option.

Eating too much food creates an energy surplus. If you are consuming more calories than what you burn, you end up gaining weight.

What you can do on Thanksgiving, is enjoy yourself, but practice moderation. For example, if you want to have more stuffing, have less dessert. This will bring your overall calorie intake down.

You should also eat less throughout the rest of the day to account for the big meal you will more than likely have at dinner and dessert.

2) Don’t Drink Your Calories

It’s very easy to drink a lot of calories. Especially when you are drinking juices, sodas, or alcoholic drinks that are packed to the brim with sugar. It does not take long to consume a few hundred liquid calories!

I highly recommend drinking zero or low-calorie drinks on the holiday. There are many options on the market like Zevia or True Citrus. By not drinking your calories, you will consume far less calories on the holiday.

3) Train Hard

You can’t out train a bad diet. But working out on the morning of the holiday is a great way to mitigate some of the effects of what you’re going to eat.

There are many types of exercise that you can do. The best thing you can do is to perform a hard lifting workout, followed by conditioning or cardio. You could also go for a brisk morning walk or do a burpee workout at home. The main thing that you must do is move!

Conclusion

Enjoy Thanksgiving but don’t go crazy with how much you eat!

I’ll holla at your next time.
