What’s the main reason to live the fit life? To upgrade your quality of life. Being fit, both physically and mentally, feels amazing. It’s like being a superhero in real life.
Naysayers
In today’s society, there is always a Ned Naysayer lurking in the shadows.
When you begin to better yourself, the naysayers will appear like jealous vultures. Some people act like crabs in a barrel. They will try to pull you back into their dark pit of excuses. Someone will always say that you are doing it wrong or that you can’t do it. Reactions like this show that person’s insecurities. They likely feel bad over their own failures or lack of effort.
If you let the Ned Naysayers and people of their ilk rule your life, you will be going nowhere fast.
Do It For Yourself
Men, you’re not living the fit life for your out-of-shape co-worker who judges your workout routine. This is the same man who can’t walk upstairs without wheezing.
Women, you’re not doing it for your “friends” who say you look like a man. The truth is that these “friends” are jealous. You’ve gotten leaner, stronger, curvier. And they saw it last Friday night. Your calves were popping, your arms looked defined, and your glutes sat high and tight like a Marine’s haircut.
I once trained a young woman who fell victim to that “anti-live the fit life” noise. She looked like a brick stallion until her “friends” said she looked like The Rock. Their assessment wasn’t accurate, but she quit shortly after. It was disappointing, but I learned that day how deep jealousy can run.
You’re not living the fit life for family members or friends who say fitness is a waste of time. Meanwhile, they are popping pills to get through the day. That resistance to your new lifestyle might even come from loved ones. But don’t let it stop you.
You’re not doing it for the gym bros who laugh at your skinny frame. I was the scarecrow of the gym once, too. But by 30, with 11 years of consistent training and solid nutrition, you’ll have a top 1% physique. Most of the bros will find themselves washed up like dirty clothes.
And you’re definitely not doing it for the spouse who says, “You don’t need to change.” If you’re dealing with health or body image issues, staying the same isn’t an option. You can’t be your best for others if you’re struggling inside and out.
This fit life is yours. Own it and live it.
Love For The Game
In my entire life, my main training goal was never to impress women like most guys do.
I have never trained, so I could post 6-pack selfies online. Or to get hollow “compliments” on Instagram. I have always centered my training goals around:
• Improving my performance for sports
• Building my physique for natural bodybuilding
• Enhancing my quality of life and confidence in myself
• Increasing my mental toughness through hard challenges
As a man, more women will definitely notice your physique as you get into great shape. A great physique is a side effect of your excellent training, nutrition, and recovery.
I have no complaints about looking better. But I never walked into the gym thinking, “If I get big biceps, I’ll finally impress Scarlett Shallow.” When I was in college, someone told me, “You only train because you run track.” “When you graduate, you will find yourself finished and out of shape like the rest of us!” This proclamation was clearly misguided and false.
I retired from track and field from 2005 to 2015. But I did not miss one scheduled training session during that time. I train because I love feeling great. And nothing makes you feel greater than being healthy and strong.
I’ve been in love with the iron since the age of 14. I’m what you would call an iron lifer.
Conclusion
To live your best life, you should live the fit life. And become that real-world superhero who inspires those around you and afar.
I’ll holla at you next time.
